After many months of planning, we are thrilled to announce the grand opening of Toy Box Treasures. This Canadian e-store specializes in unique, educational children’s toys that promise to stimulate learning and capture a child’s imagination.
It is important to select toys that enhance children’s cognitive, physical and social development. Open-ended toys that develop motor skills and allow children to be creative and imaginative are the ones returned to over and over again. Our Meccano toys develop dexterity and problem solving skills. Our wooden train sets develop imagination and build spatial understanding. Our bilingual Language Littles dolls come in a variety of different languages and teach children new words and phrases in a different language. Puppets teach children how to express themselves and develop creativity and story-telling skills. Our puppets are even great for teaching kids how to tie shoelaces, do up buttons and dress and undress. They can also be used to liven up story time by making the book’s characters “come to life.” These are only a few of the over 100 products we offer our customers. We have a superior costume line, dollhouses and other imaginative play products as well as craft kits for boys and girls. And we have puzzles that are not your ordinary puzzles. Our puzzles are 3-D and can be used as room décor, too!
Toy Box Treasures also believes in helping children, which is why we have selected a group of puzzles, Max and Maggie the Moody Bears, whereby all proceeds from their sale will go to support Toronto’s Sick Kids Foundation. We also have an excellent new personalized fundraising program for school’s and children’s groups. It is available exclusively in Canada through Toy Box Treasures, and promises to be a lucrative endeavour for any organization committed to children.
Please feel free to browse, shop and spread the word that we are here by passing this newsletter to friends and family and introducing them to Toy Box Treasures.
Reading creates a special bond between children and their parents. It also helps to instill a love of learning and language from an early age.
But it does so much more too. Research shows that literacy is a key determinant of health. According to the Nova Scotia Family Literacy Program, Canadians with low literacy skills are more likely to be unemployed and suffer poorer health than Canadians with high levels of literacy.
Give children a head start at learning by reading to them from birth. According to literacy research, at birth, babies have all the brain cells they need for life but they need to develop connections between cells. It is these connections that are key to learning. The brain’s ability to grow these connections is greatest between infancy and age three. Reading to a child from birth provides the sights and sounds that will help the brain develop fully. This is in addition to the bonding and comfort of a safe place that you will give to a child through the spoken and written word.
Make time each day to read to your child. As you read, change your voice. Play with words and pictures. Even point to the words and talk about the pictures in the book. Babies love hearing their parents’ voices so you can read almost anything to them.
Keep books all over your home. Make sure they are accessible and encourage your child to pick up the books, look at the pictures and talk to you about what they see.
Sharing songs, stories and nursery rhymes with your baby or children throughout the day calms, entertains and builds language skills. If you are somewhere where books are not available, tell your child a story. Make it up as you go along or tell them about yourself when you were young. This will open up a world of questions.
At Toy Box Treasures every item is hand-selected to ensure it maintains educational value for children. These latest new products are a testament of our commitment to learning. Click on each picture to take you to Toy Box Treasures to see the full line of these products.

Research shows there is a clear link between nutrition and learning, yet in Canada many children do not receive the nourishment they need to do well in school. Undernourished children have shorter attention spans, have more difficulty concentrating on tasks at hand and are absent from school more often. With childhood diseases such as obesity and diabetes on the rise, it is vital to establish the importance of proper nutrition, and its link to learning.
With the support of over 30,000 volunteers across the country, Breakfast for Learning supports thousands over 2,300 student nutrition programs, and in 2006/07, helped nourish over 230,000 children and youth. Founded by Canadian Living magazine, Breakfast for Learning is a testament to Canadians’ commitment to our children, the strength and power of our communities and above all to education and learning.
